Nanny State

There has been much hoopla the last few weeks in the adult entertainment world over Britain’s proposed internet filtering of adult websites by default being passed into law. They are not outlawing adult sites, nor the citizens access to them, but they wish for internet service providers to block all such sites by default and have people call in if they want such blocks removed so they have access to adult sites.

All this of course is “in the interest of the children”. They feel their childhood is being corroded by the little buggars finding porn on the internet and giving themselves a premature education in all matter sexual so to speak. Whatever happened to parents taking responsibility for little Johnny’s access to the internet? I guess that’s too much trouble, to buy a software program for your household computers and blocking it yourself. No, they have to have the government make everyone else be inconvenienced by doing the parenting for them.

This whole thing is absurd to say the very least. You can well imagine the problems that will ensue. Many wives will be happy about this since then their porn addicted husbands will then be cut off too, and is hubby going to incur the wrath of wifey and call up the ISP and say, yes, unblock the porn? Some of these wives have got their husbands by the balls now as it is, I can only imagine what will happen if this bill passes, the men will be back to porno mags hidden under the seats of their cars. Good news for print magazines which are dying off left and right I suppose, it will be back to the days of hidden dirty magazine stashes. Countries that block websites from citizens, I cannot even imagine living in such a country where a government was making a decision  on my behalf of what they felt was best for me to be watching or listening to. This will be good for VPN services providers and print magazines, but boy, the days of 1984 and Big Brother seem to be here.
