With the popularity of books like 50 Shades of Grey, BDSM has become more mainstream than it was. It used to be considered to be on the fringes of acceptable sexual activity only engaged in by more extreme individuals. Now more are experimenting than ever before to kick things up a notch and see how they like it. For many they may never engage in more than a blindfold or being tied up to the bed posts, and that’s fine, it’s very tame and still gives you taste of something a bit different.
Others go whole hog into leather masks, pony play, all kinds of really out there things like pain and restraints, spreader bars. There really is no end to the lengths some will go, even inflicting pain to the point of bleeding and all kinds of things most wouldn’t be wanting to delve into. I guess as long as both are consenting and it’s what they want, why not. A few movies have touched on this theme, from “9 1/2 Weeks”, the classic in the 1980’s, to the bit more unusual “Secretary”, both of which I’ve seen a few times, to the upcoming movie version of “50 Shades of Grey”, that’s been much anticipated by the fans of the book series.
There’s different levels to any sexual activity. Some are looking for the role of the dominator, others do crave to be submissive, even to the point of abuse. It’s interesting how one can choose the opposite to what they have in their daily lives, the meek becoming bold, the gruff becoming submissive, many like to switch things up in the bedroom for variety, others like to flip flop and be a switch, depending on their partner and mood.
