One of my callers has several full sized mannequins he plays with and dresses up. He’s sent pictures. He keeps them in a spare bedroom he calls “the lounge.” This in and of itself is weird, but he’s sent further pictures of Barbie like dolls he found online that are made for adults. He has several of them as well. They are dressed in lingerie and have removable and changeable heads, feet and hands. When he sent me the link to these dolls and their racy attire, everything from bras and panties to pantyhose and stockings, I’d never seen anything like it.
I was quite into Barbie dolls when I was a kid, but these are most definitely a grown up version of them. I never knew such dolls existed, or that such types of attire was available for them to wear. No one but adults would be dressing up dolls in these sorts of clothes. As a Barbie loving kid, you’d never even dream such a kind of doll and clothes like that would exist. It’s hard to believe there are grown men out there, this man is in his sixties, that are going home from work and dressing up dolls in their off hours and posing them in little scenes. He had them in chairs on a laid out cloth.
They had toy guitars and a little dinosaur as a pet, with a house plant behind them acting as a tree of sorts. It was a whole little scene. They have names and I think he talks to them. If people knew what went on behind the closed doors of others, they’d be speechless and shocked. He’s not hurting anyone and it’s his money to spend on this junk as he sees fit obviously, but it’s just a hobby no one would ever consider someone else is doing.
